Deborah Joy

Dr. Deborah Joy is an award-winning concert pianist and composer. She has studied with masters in Russia, Michigan, Korea, Boston, Aspen, and Germany, and earned her Doctorate in Piano Performance from Arizona State University. Dr. Joy has performed all over the Europe. She has organized and performed fundraisers for Goodnews Rescue Mission, and locally, for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and created an event, “Dream is Alive”, at Phoenix College. Most recently, an interview with Deborah Joy, along with her piano performance on Schubert Impromptu Op. 90, No. 2 was featured on radio KXXT1010AM. Dr. Joy completed the first high definition, surround sound recording of Etudes Australes (16 etudes) by John Cage, a revolutionary Post-Modernist. Dr. Joy was first prize winner of a concerto competition in Phoenix and performed at Gammage Auditorium in Tempe, and also a winner in Michigan and performed at Hill Auditorium. She was a first prize winner at the Contemporary Music Competition in Boston and performed at Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory. She won the First Place in I.M.E.A.-S.N.A.P. Competition (Illinois State Composition Competition) with her first solo piano composition. Deborah Joy was the recipient of the Excellence in Piano Performance Award (created especially for her) at the University of Michigan for the first time in their history of piano department. She was also a finalist for the Bach Competition, and the Concerto Competitions at the renowned Aspen Music Festival, and the Shreveport Piano Competition. She was a semi finalist for the International Piano Competition in France and Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition.

Through Dr. Joy's teaching, you’ll learn to play the music you love with great techniques that will set you apart and discover your true music as a pianist. She also taught at Elite Piano Academy, University of Michigan, Northeastern University and Arizona State University as TA. Dr. Joy combines music lessons with history and theory through personal mentoring, which unlocks your full potential musically and passion in your music study and successful career.
