Jasmine Carlos has a passion for teaching classical and jazz private piano to beginning through intermediate students of all ages. She has more than 10 years of private piano teaching experience. She teaches at a home-based studio in Glendale and Phoenix. She also travels to homes in Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, and Sun City to students who are able to take lessons in the mornings and early afternoons.
Mrs. Carlos holds a Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from Northern Arizona University and studied under the direction of Dr. Frank Scott. She is an active member of MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), ASMTA (Arizona State Music Teachers Association), and PMTA (Phoenix Music Teachers Association), networking with piano teachers throughout the U.S. She is currently the staff accompanist for Northwest Christian School and the Deer Valley School District choirs. Carlos has considerable experience playing for jazz bands and accompanying instrumentalists, vocalists, church services, jazz madrigal choirs, and weddings.
Piano students explore the piano through the learning of standard musical repertoire, technical foundations, musical theory, ear training, sight-reading, and improvisation. Elementary school students are encouraged to participate in a self-guided weekly lab to help reinforce what has been taught in their private piano lessons.
Mrs. Carlos offers her students various recital and performance opportunities throughout the academic school year, including Studio Recitals, the Fall Festival, the Piano Ensemble Festival, the Arizona Study Program, and the Adult Student Recital series. She encourages her students to participate in these events to gain performance experience, tackle performance anxiety, and share music with others.
