Karen Arrington Thomasson received her Bachelor of Music degree with Teachers Certificate from Brigham Young University where she studied on a full music scholarship and first chair flutist.
Mrs. Thomasson has been teaching students since 1986. She continues to perform as soloist, within community groups and in the Flute Quartet "Flutasia" for over 25 years. She plays piano for church and accompanying her students. She most recently studied piano with Dr. Christina Eide. She is a PMTA Board member and committee chair.
Mrs. Thomasson's piano students consistently earn awards in the Arizona Study Program (ASP) sponsored by Arizona Music Teacher Association. Her flute students consistently earn awards from the Arizona Flute Society (AFS) and she has a track record of preparing flutists for college.
Mrs. Thomasson's teaching techniques include her own playing for and with her students to challenge and encourage their own musical excellence. Her priorities are musicality, the love of music, proper technique, theory skills and relevant musical history.
Typically, lessons are 45 to 60 minutes for experienced students. Beginning students have 30 minute lessons for the first year. Students prepare and perform in two recitals per year and when ready are entered into the ASP or AFS program. Group lessons are utilized twice each semester for performance practice, duets and advanced skill and theory concepts. Instruction also includes a FUN Summer Music Camp for one week in early June.
