Erik Jansen

Erik Jansen holds an MM in Piano Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, a BMUS in Piano Performance from the University of Idaho, and a BFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Idaho. A current resident of Phoenix, Mr. Jansen teaches 40+ students who have participated in numerous festivals and competitions, including Fall Festival, Piano Ensemble, and Arizona Study Program. He also holds a pianist position at Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Church. In Kansas City, Mr. Jansen held faculty positions at Northland Cathedral School of Music, Base Academy of Music, ran his private studio, worked with Liberty middle schools as a choral accompanist, and maintained a regular performance life with local artists. Representative instructors of Mr. Jansen include Robert Weirich, William Chapman Nyaho, Kristin Elgersma, and Kay Zavislak.

Mr. Jansen formerly held teaching positions at the University of Idaho Preparatory Division, and served as the choral accompanist graduate assistant for all choral ensembles at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Additionally, he has worked as a freelance accompanist since 2008. An avid theatre enthusiast, he has worked with the University of Idaho’s Theatre Department and Idaho Reparatory Theatre as accompanist, musical director, assistant musical director, director, composer, actor, and singer. In 2013 and 2014, Mr. Jansen was a piano teaching assistant at the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts. He is an active MTNA member and a former Hampton Scholar.

In 2013, Mr. Jansen was one of six individuals selected to attend master classes with Françoise Thinat at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, Edda Erlendsdóttir at the National Conservatory of Versailles, and Bart Van Oort at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague; as well as give a recital at the Engelse Kerk in Amsterdam.
