Jill Tabata attended Northern University and holds Bachelor of Music degrees in Piano Performance, and Academic Music Studies. She specializes in teaching relaxed, elegant piano technique, with focus on classical and beautiful modern music. She loves to teach adults and kids ages 8 and up.
Jill strives to make playing the piano satisfying for students by making sure they have songs to play that they love, which may include a mix of classical, movie/video game themes, pop-style piano, and holiday theme songs. Her students may elect to participate in the Arizona Study Program or Royal Conservatory of Music exams, and have performance opportunities with PMTA (Music at the Mall, Student recitals, etc), themed recitals at Riverton Piano Peoria (Masquerade Halloween Recital, Disney, etc), in addition to studio recitals.
Lessons include technique warm-ups to encourage excellent hand position and finger dexterity, repertoire/songs, music theory and listening activities.
Jill experienced performance-related wrist tendonitis as a college student, then trained in the Lister-Sink Method with Barbara Lister-Sink to develop efficient, relaxed technique. Now she is able to help students avoid aches and pains at the piano!
