My name is Dr. Michele Cohen, and I am a concert pianist with a passion for teaching and performing! I was born in Bahia, Brazil and came to the United States at age 16 after winning the Jaffe National Piano Auditions of Brazil. I completed my Master's and Doctoral Degree in Piano Performance at the Indiana University School of Music in the studios of Michel Block and Arnaldo Cohen. At Indiana University, I was awarded an Associate Instructor Fellowship and taught piano group classes and private lessons to hundreds of undergraduate students.

During my time in Indiana, I won the Artist International Audition of New York and played a winner's concert at Carnegie Hall dedicated to Brazilian classical music. I was invited to perform at the Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series at the Chicago Cultural Center and received the Martha Istomin Award honoring a promising Latin American Artist. I also received the Bosendorfer Artist Award and Capes Fulbright Grant from the Government of Brazil. Recently, I created an arts-integration program at the International Schools of Beijing, China where I taught middle and high school students.

After moving to the Valley, I established a thriving piano studio where I help students of all ages and levels achieve technical proficiency and freedom of expression at the piano. Several of my students have been accepted as piano majors at colleges around the country and have won scholarships to further their studies. The best student is the one who is eager to learn! With that in mind, I dedicate myself to inspiring students of all ages experience the transcendental world of making music at the piano. We explore together different styles of composition, fundamentals of proper technique, music theory and history. My method is highly individualized to allow each student achieve technical proficiency and musical understanding.

As a member of the College Music Society, Music Teachers National Association, and Phoenix Music Teachers Association, I can offer many performing opportunities that include recitals, auditions and competitions.
